Industry Quotes :
"Dirty Habit made a big splash recently with Dash & Samurai and Agent Alvin, and the ethereal vocal loveliness of Subsenix ft. Essence’ ‘Drop In The Ocean’ will be getting people damp in the pants region too no doubt; if you’re a fan of slickly produced and epic sounding Drum & Bass then this one for you. Krooked gets bent on the flip with his own very ‘Serious Sound’ and a proper mashup it is too, powerful beats and bass for the floor. Biggles! " Nu-Urban Music (ref - Drop In The Ocean) 2008
"The ability of a track to make you sing along is a quality that comes out either when played on computer speakers for personal enjoyment or on the dancefloor for everyone to hear. Synrgy’s Sundown mix of Embers has just that infectious quality; the beautiful vocals (from Essence) grip you at first listen and don’t let go until the massive synth and crashing break have taken you away from the half-tempo meter and dense ambience to "dance your ass off land". This tune is one for that ladies that all the guys want to hear. " In Da Jungle Recordings (ref - Virus Vs Essence Embers (Synrgy’s Sundown mix)) 2007

SUMMARY OF 2006 : ViralEssence formed at the beginning of 2006 after Essence met Contayjen (then known as Virus) on the Drum N Bass forum Spinwarp. After meeting up initially just to record vocals for Embers and Doing Fine Now, a jam immediately sparked up and gave birth to Green Bliss. Essence and Contayjen decided to work on an album and the ViralEssence journey begun. Apr 06 saw the first release, Green Bliss, which was picked up from the Computer Music Magazine forum for mention in the issue 101 of the magazine, in the 'listening room' slot. In the same week, Green Bliss clocked in at no.1 on the Official Chart on Mp3Unsigned.com. Within days, permission to remix Green Bliss was immediately requested by 2 signed producers, E:mortal (dark trance - Black Tiger Recordings) and C.A.B.L.E. (dnb). The C.A.B.L.E. Remix was signed and released on Bad Company UK's latest compilation CD Bad Taste II in November 06 and played on BBC Radio's Asian Network. In May-June 06 Embers was released, also reaching no.1 in the Official Chart on Mp3Unsigned.com. A remix competition on Battle of the Beatz received 12 entries, one of which, Synrgy's Sundown Mix was signed by In Da Jungle Recordings and has been featured in DJ mixes worldwide. In Nov 06 Essence produced a new video to the ViralEssence track "Nasty Intentions" plus a second remix competition was announced, receiving 15 entries. A remix by Subsonik was signed by Incite Recordings. The Nasty Intentions video was voted as one of the three 'Video of the Year 2006' on Mp3Unsigned.com. Essence also started to DJ out in clubs in the UK and Europe. The best of these gigs were at the Kaiman Club, Antwerp and the Eastern Haze Festival 2006. Essence also had a two hour weekly Friday night slot on Evolution fm spinning DnB to hard Trance, Old Skool and Techno.

In July Essence managed the drum and bass stage at a 3 day festival The Eastern Haze Festival, alongside Rain.Bo! The BASS STATION promo was a fantastic weekend and a huge success running without hitch. In August 2007 after 16 months of files flying back and forth over the net between Contayjen and Essence the album "Into the Light" by ViralEssence was released on CD and digital formats. Essence also made several new videos in 2007.

Essence is also working with signed and up and coming producers within the DNB world. At the end of 2007 Essence teamed up with a producer who goes by the name Attic Tracks, at the moment the joint collab is named ATFE (Attic tracks Featuring Essence). They are already in the depths of producing and finishing 6 tracks, and are set to make an album with the release date unknown as yet. The album is to be very unique sounding - a sweet infusion of Electronic Ambient, DnB undertones and breaks topped with the lush vocal coatings of Essence..watch this space for more information soon.
In April 2008 Hope - Morphesis Feat Essence was released on Influenza Media.
In May 2008 ViralEssence recieved an excellent review in the Great Yarmouth and also the Waveney Advertisers by reviewer Sharon Richardson. Here is what she had to say:
ViralEssence formed in 2006 after a chance meeting of DJ – Singer/Songwriter Essence and Contayjen.
They fuse drum and bass, trip hop, lounge and chill –out to create a blissful and intoxicating sound.
Their debut album Into the Light serves up 15 tracks of seductive melodies and shimmering sonic creations. At times the tracks are uplifting and energetic and then they bring you down into a soothed state of mind.
The music is experimental, from the earthy and bristling sounds of Summer Vibes to the Arabian flavours backed with frenetic drum and bass rhythms on Green Bliss.
Essence’s vocals are extremely versatile and suit the dreamy melodies of Madly Chilled or the soulful and feisty vocals of Sitting Pretty.
Making this debut album even more special is that it has been written, mixed, mastered and distributed entirely independently yet it has an extremely professional, but not overproduced sound.
Haling from Kent, Essence was drawn to Norfolk after she was asked to DJ at the Eastern Haze Festival at Somerleyton in 2006 and was requested to run the Drum and Bass stage in 2007. Now resident near Great Yarmouth, ViralEssence are a local act to look out for to catch before they get snapped up by much bigger venues.
